The only Screenshot I can take

After reading, and then deliberating about the censors done to the English Localized version of this game... Idea Factory released a price drop on its censored localized version, and with its new cheaper price, debating with myself if I should get it got easier, by rationalizing that its cheaper price is better than paying full price for a censored game. (I still earnestly believe that there are many other horrible things that could have been censored instead of this game...)

This review will seem to be a bit lacking, due to the game's feature of not allowing screen-shots, so I will try to make this as engaging as possible.

First of all, this game is not for everyone, it fits with a certain niche, but it truly is not for everyone, due to certain features of the game itself. Thus, I begin my review on Monster Monpiece...

I. Gameplay

It's gameplay is similar to those online flash games, wherein you summon things at your side until you're able to overrun the field with your troops, to do damage to the enemy base. Though the change is that you do this in turns, in a 'Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft," kind of style. So in one battle, it begins with a toin coss on who goes first, and you're then shown a number of cards on your hand, your mana, as well as the field (a 3x7 grid) with one side being your's and the other, the opponent's. It then evolves into a card fight, wherein you watch your cute monster girls beat/get beat up by the opponent's monster girls on the 3D grid-map.

One of the game's notable features is the "First crush ❤ Rub" mode, wherein you pour magical power into your cards by rubbing them in 3 different ways. I would also like to state here that the rubbing part is NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS. Why? Well... First of all the 3 different ways to rub... There's also the fact that one has to find the spot on the card where that certain rub will work, so yes, it is not as easy as it looks. Once one pours enough magical power however, the graphic of the card 'evolves' into an image that shows the monster girl's more bare unrestrained power.

The game also has an online multiplayer mode that basically lets two players play the game with or without  a variety of special rules. The game also encourages this multiplayer mode by giving a larger reward when players use this mode.

II. Plot

Plots. In addition to that, the story is pretty straightforward, I won't go into detail and accidentally post spoilers here, but I will state that the story is really engaging to it got me glued into playing the game for several card fights.

III. Final Thoughts

As for my final opinion, this game is a simple, yet addicting game. It's a game that despite its censored parts, was still able to let me have fun while playing it. My only negative comment on it, is that they should have at least put replacement art for all the card graphics that were censored off the actual game.

IV. Extra Stuff
They also apparently give a free Neptune (the one from the Hyperdimension Neptunia Game).

My Rating:

(7/10)

Pros

  • Addicting 'Rub System'
  • Fun card battles
  • Card collection!
  • Uses the PS Vita's back touch screen (Yes, the vita has a touch screen at the back)
  • OP song
  • Card Graphics
Cons
  • Censored off art (When a card is to reach it's level 3 'evolution,' the graphic does not change)
  • Card battles can become 'repetitive'
  • Does not allow screenshots
  • Multiplayer community is next to non-existent (At the moment this was posted)
I recommend this game for those that are not too conservative, and have an interest in Japanese Games, since this game is an experience that such people should not miss ;) . Of course, I recommend this to everyone else, because it's possible that one may come to like this game, though for those people who have that 'completion' kind of thing, I suggest they also look for the Japanese version, since as I stated above, this game is missing some card graphics within it.
