By: Seth LegaspiFirst off, It's not 7, it's V2. Yes, V2. Confusing I know, but it's nothing to nep about, especially with how random and entertaining the Neptunia series is.
After some years of Re;Births and non-canonical games, we now have this canonical game on the PS4, in glorious more HD graphics.
As with the ps3 versions, we've noticed that they made big improvements from one game to the next, and this one is no different. Huge improvements have been added, ranging from the cooler looking NEXT forms, towards how much less cookie cutter the dungeons are, heck I can state with confidence that each dungeon had that fresh feeling to it; even on my second playthrough!. ( Yes, there are still some dungeons that feel like copy pastes of the others)
Of course, there's the signature, "Please Teach me Histy!" tutorial of the game, with, which I believe are simple straight-forward instructions. Fortunately, they don't take 3 days to read...
Look at that trophy screenshot... Yep, I didn't notice |
As for the actual gameplay, it's not too different from Victory; there's still the movement limit, and the range and aoe for the attacks.
A weapon to surpass the CPUs |
They also have this new "Neplunker" dungeon, where you get Nepnep and her friends to go through an obstacle course with a limited number of lives. Yes, lives. Running out of lives will lead to the gameover screen, and the game provides a really stern warning to always save before going in... So yeah.
This part of the game however, seems to have some bugs... I mean... My character died when I clearly landed on a platform...
Despite this weird bug; the game's way of telling the story really got me hooked. One of the things that they did that I should highlight is the way they divided the game into three parts:
Zero Dimension is like the prologue of the game; featuring its own final boss, and map.
Hyperdimension is like the central portion of the game; again featuring its own final boss, and map.
Finally, there's Heart Dimension featuring a new map, as well as encompassing the other previous maps. Of course, as the final chapter of the game, this has umm... "Multiple final bosses".
Of course, there's also how Neptune breaks the wall many times, and the several game, anime, and other references throughout the game.
It's one of those games that was free on Steam for a weekend! You know, the one by SEGA? |
NepNowa seems to be the proper term for that "ship" |
Could it be? The last of that strain? |
What's sad is that you can assign other scouts to go with him |
They also added CG animations into the game, though for some reason; these are of lower resolution than the actual game. Well... My TV was kinda big, so maybe it was due to that.
Yep, it was most likely my TV, and that darn Trophy shot again. |
To summarize, this game is really fun. I had a happy time nepping, and immersing myself in Gamindustri. Add to this the random free DLCs that Iffy throws out on the PSN, and I'm pretty happy.
I recommend this game for the NepNep fans, and for those who would like to play a solid, and enjoyable JRPG. As for those new to the Neptunia series, do not worry since the game will give a very general summary on what happened to the previous games based on what they mention about it throughout the story, and it's not that much that one will be even a little lost as to what's happening.
My Rating:
(10/10)
Good Stuffs:
- NepNep
- Lily Ranking is less stressful in this game
- Characters, most likely Neptune, will introduce some characters as a refresher, and to introduce the series to newcomers
- NEXT form
- The companies. (Yes. The companies)
- On the ps4
- Umio (the reference, and how often Umio appears made me laugh a few times)
- May get repetitive after some time
Best character and voice |
